Race Procedures
Briefings
Participant briefings will be held each evening prior to, and every morning immediately before, the start of a stage. It is important that participants attend these briefings. Briefings will cover the course, weather and safety information.
Time measurements
Time is recorded for each team. Stage times only will be recorded, not time between each checkpoint.
Start procedures
The start line will be opened 30 minutes before the official starting time of each stage. Racers will position themselves in the start area for the first stage on a first come basis. For subsequent stages, starting positions will be determined by the teams’ overall standing.
All racers have the same starting time irrespective of their position in the starters’ field.
Check points along the route
There will be check points on each stage. Each check point will have a cut-off time, by which teams must be through or face disqualification.
Both members of a team must arrive together at each check point. Failure to attend a check point will result in disqualification.
Cut off times
There will be cut-off times for reaching all check points and the finish line. Failure to reach a check point in time will result in disqualification from the stage. Participants that have not met cut off times will be transported to the finish line for the day. We want every rider to complete the whole course so these will be linked to safety considerations.
Finish Procedures
Both members of a team must arrive together at the finish line.
Alpine Epic Finisher
Only participants who have concluded each and every stage, and according to all rules and regulations, will be considered official 'finishers' of the Alpine Epic.
The winner of a stage is the race team that crosses the finish line first, under the provision that no penalties were accrued during the stage.
