Equipment

Helmets

NZ LTSA approved helmets must be worn at all times during the race without exception.

Clothing and emergency gear

Every participant is expected to carry the following compulsory gear:

  • Windproof and waterproof jacket;
  • Thermal (or equivalent) hat and gloves;
  • First aid kit - suitable to apply basic first aid (one per team)
  • Foil survival blanket;
  • Whistle

It is strongly recommended to take along additional tools, spare parts and bike tubes.

Any riders on specific personal medications are responsible for supplying and carrying their own medication.

Race numbers

Each participant will receive a race number to be mounted on the handlebars of his/her bike. The numbers must be visible at all times during the race.

Assistance by others

Except for in emergency situations, teams are prohibited from accepting any help or assistance from people who are not participating in the race.

Rules on towing/pulling/pushing

Team members may help each other by pushing only. Towing devices of any kind are not permitted. By pushing we mean direct contact of the hand on the person or bike of the rider being assisted. No pulling devices or systems using bungy cord, or holding on to a team mate will be allowed. This will be enforced with a non-negotiable 1 hour time penalty per infringement.

Environmental protection

The race runs through a mixture of Department of Conservation and private land. Leave nothing behind except your tread marks, this will be strictly enforced and littering will result in instant removal from the event.

Technical service

Mechanical assistance, and cleaning facilities, will be available at the finish area. Mechanical assistance will be paid for by competitors.

We cannot guarantee that race mechanics will be able to provide all necessary spare parts. We recommend that you bring your own - just in case.
