Race rules and safety

This is not finite, as with any event common sense applies and this is an overview of the rules we will apply.

Prerequisites for participation

  • Competitors must be at least 16 years of age as of the start date of the Alpine Epic
  • Competitors under the age of 16, who are competing with a parent, may be allowed to participate with the permission, and at the discretion, of the race organisers, please contact us before entering
  • All competitors must accept the terms and conditions of entry before participating; this includes signing a waiver at race registration in Mt Somers
  • It is not necessary to be a member of a cycling club to enter the Alpine Epic
  • Each participant is responsible for ensuring that they have adequate fitness to safely complete the event. If unsure, please seek medical advice before entering
  • The race organisers reserve the right to reject the registration of a participant

How to enter

  • Participants must enter online via our entry page
  • There are a limited number of entries, which for 2011 has been set at 100 teams. People will be placed on a waiting list if entries fill up before race day and notified

Teams

  • Every team must consist of two people. You cannot race without a partner.
  • Team members must ride together. This is an essential safety measure. Teams will only be considered for ranking if they are recorded jointly at the start, all check points along the trail and at the finish. Both team members must arrive at checkpoints together
  • Categories will simply be done on combined age of the team-members, full months and years added. For three and four person relay teams, age of each team member will be added and divided by three or four, then multiplied by two to give the category.
    • Age splits are: Open <80 years, Veteran 81-100, Classic 101+
    • Corporate teams (both riders must work for the same company)
  • A minimum of 5 teams is required for a category to exist. Other categories may be added as needed
  • The age (in full years) of each team member is determined at the first day of the race
  • Potential categories include but are not limited to:
  • Mixed teams
    • 2person (open, veteran, classic)
    • 3 person (open, veteran, classic)
    • 4 person (open, veteran, classic)
